Liam’s Favorite Toys (6+ months)

I realized that after Liam’s Week 1 favorites (which was 9.5 months ago… whaat?) I never wrote another post based on my son’s preferences! Boy, how times have changed. My little man wants to play with big boy toys now!

In the end, we just have to come to terms with the fact that it’s all about our little ones. No matter how adorable you think something is, if it’s “boring” to your baby, it’s useless. It’ll just end up on the outskirts of his play mat, gathering dust. But it’s okay… We deal with it and move on, right? There are plenty of other toys in the sea!

In our household, the “favorites” changes pretty often — but Liam does have a soft spot for the toys below! Hope your baby enjoys them just as much as he does 🙂

Although most of them are definitely for babies 6 months and above, others (like the play mat, for example) may be fine for the littles ones as well.

I started searching for a new baby play mat after we realized that our $20 ABC foam mat just wasn’t cutting it anymore : not only did dog hairs cling to it like magnets, but Liam also figured out how to peel the squares apart. It was a carnage! All the pieces had teeth marks indented in them and I spent more time putting the mat back together than actually playing with Liam on it.

When I first searched the internet, I quickly got overwhelmed: they were all either too small, the material wasn’t padded enough, contained too many parts and pieces… That was until I found the Baby Care play mats, which are absolutely perfect for Liam’s play room.

First of all, they’re huge! Two of them take up the whole room. They’re also nicely padded and super easy to clean because it’s one big mat, and not a bunch of pieces that fit together. They come in a ton of different designs (some busier than others) and are reversible. We picked the farm and town, which Liam loves.

I bought this toy during one of our trips to Buy Buy Baby. Liam was fussing and I happened to see it on a shelf and gave it to him. He was all smiles, so I knew it was a keeper 🙂

I love that it’s made of sustainable wood with a non-toxic, water based finish. It’s a great twist on the basic rattle — Liam loves flattening it, biting the rounded ends and pulling onto the elastics.

This is such a fun book! I originally bought it because Liam loves music: it’s incredibly therapeutic for him! If he’s crying, there’s nothing better than a few nursery rhymes to get him in a good mood again. With six different nursery rhyme pages, the songs automatically start playing when your baby flips the page. Liam can spend a full hour opening and closing it!

You can’t beat the price for these two baby staples! In the last few months, I’ve noticed that as dynamic as Liam can sometimes be, he’s also very meticulous: he likes playing with small toys, feeling their edges, tasting them… these toys are perfect! He loves how many options he has and collecting them all around him on his play mat. Perfect distraction!

I am so glad we ordered this swing! Liam loves it so much. Since he was very little, he’s been obsessed with the backyard: fresh air, rustling leaves, trees… I think we’ve got a boy scout on our hands 😉

When he gets frustrated and it happens to be nice out, I always take him swinging. The funny thing is that he’s fine just sitting in it, without swinging, just looking around at the yard and the dogs playing fetch. It’s his favorite spot!

We discovered this one during Liam’s Musical Munchkins class. Liam was mesmerized by the bubbles — It was so fun to watch him try to grab them and get so excited when they popped!

What’s amazing about these specific bubbles is that they are nontoxic and mess free! They also linger much longer (sometimes hours!) than the average soap bubbles. Perfect for a baby’s first experience!

This toy was recommended by Liam’s new bestie, Jolie! It’s a lot of fun because of all the options available… Each side is a party! Liam loves to press the buttons and flip it around.

But I must warn you, parents: you will know the songs by heart and they will get stuck in your head. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Liam has recently started paying attention to these mini balls. He loves the variety and that he’s finally able to grab them on his own. We got the basketball, soccer ball, and football from a guest at our baby shower… and the rugby ball from his grandpa, of course!

Although we didn’t think Liam would enjoy his puzzle quite yet, he immediately loved it. I’m not sure whether it’s the wood or the fact that none of his other toys are quite like it… but he always seems to gravitate towards it!

This one is a classic! Liam has been obsessed with it from day one. He always gets so happy when we bring her out 🙂 Poor Sophie has seen her fair share of drool… and I’m sure it’s just the beginning! Just wait until those dreaded molars make their appearance…
